Are You Classic?

When we ask are you Classic, you might picture Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, or Jackie O as the first lady, or Sean Connery as James Bond, and you would be correct; these are all people, or portrayals, of Classic style. Classic style is timeless, neat, and tidy.

The Colors

It is the plight of the Classic person to get out of neutral. They tend to love their clothes black, brown, beige, white, navy, and gray. There is a simplicity to neutral colors that attracts them, but the magic happens when a Classic person starts to venture into the world of color. When a Classic person starts to wear color, they will feel most comfortable in monochromatic outfits, as adding too many colors might feel a little too “out there.”

The Style

Classic style tends to be buttoned up, with clean lines and simple silhouettes. They like their pencil skirts, slacks, blazers, suit vests, trench coats, pea coats, and oxfords simple. Extra frills or fabric will feel messy to a Classic. When they wear a suit, the fabric of the jacket and pants or skirt will match. They love the “rule” that your shoes have to match your belt. Collared shirts make them happy, be it a classic button up or a polo. Most often Classics will tuck in their shirts, even when working in the garden in a t-shirt, it will be tucked in. Order is important to Classic styled people, so when they are wearing a cardigan, or sweater it will be buttoned up all the way to the top. Classic people like balance, so when they are wearing patterns, they will be simple and orderly, not too big and not too small; they will pick whether to wear earrings or a necklace, cufflinks or a pocket square. Their clothes will be tailored, but not too fitted.

Accessories will be simple and medium to small in size. Their handbags and wallets will be neat, with everything in its place, and nothing superfluous. Purses will have structure so that they stand upright when they are set down. Jewelry will be simple and clean, like a strand of pearls, diamond stud earrings, or an unadorned gold wedding band. If they wear a hat, the brim will be small like a fedora or cloche. Ties will be solid colors or have simple patterns. Their favorite shoes will be penny loafers, oxfords, Chanel shoes, or for casual days boat shoes. When wearing heels, they will tend toward kitten heels or other low heeled pumps. Men will adore their wingtips when dressing up. Quality is important to Classics, and they will tend to keep their clothing and accessories for decades because their style is timeless and the items they buy will be well made.
